Information about Beal West

Since 2000, the town has leased space at Beal West for our kindergartens. The classrooms are spacious and air-conditioned. Each classroom has bathroom facilities for students. We are indeed fortunate to have this available space! Please know, that Beal West is very much a part of Beal School. The following Frequently Asked Questions were developed to help you understand Beal West so that your child can have a smooth transition to Kindergarten.

Where is Beal West?

Beal West is located on Weslyan Terrace, behind the Post Office.

Who attends Beal West?

Each year an area of a neighborhood with kindergarten students is selected to attend Beal West. Typically it is a neighborhood with the same amount of students that will fulfill the enrollment at Beal West.

Do Beal West students ever go to Beal School?

Yes, every Friday, students who attend Beal West are dropped off at Beal (by their bus or by a parent if they do not take the bus) where their teachers meet them. They attend sing along, physical education, and media for their school day.

Do Beal West students ride separate school buses?

They ride the same buses that go to Beal.  Beal West students are usually the first stop for the drop off and then the bus heads over to Beal for Beal students to be dropped off.

What is the student Ðteacher ratio at Beal West?

It is the same that it is at Beal. There are 2 classroom teachers and 2 shared assistants.

What about specialists?

Speech therapists, literacy tutors, the school psychologist, and nurse all visit Beal West as needed.

Are there other tenants at Beal West?

Cucaro Associates, who are manufacturers' reps for Wood-mode cabinetry own the building and have an office on site. The Shrewsbury Community Partnership for Children is also located at Beal West.

Do Beal West students receive the same program as students at Beal?

Yes, all kindergarten students receive the same curriculum. The teachers collaborate on a weekly basis.

How can I explain to my child that they will attend Beal West 4 days a week and Beal on Fridays?

Over the years we have found that the children adjust quickly to Beal West and once they settle into the routine, where they are is not an issue. Young children read their parents with a keen eye. It is important that you, as parent, demonstrate your excitement over your child's kindergarten placement. Explain to your child that since there are so many kindergarteners, that some attend Beal West Monday-Thursday, and then come to Beal on Friday for special activities. Beal West students have 2 places to hang their backpack. This is typically enough to say.

Can Beal West students attend the summer program?

Yes! Part of the summer program is a walk over to Beal West so all students know that it is a part of the school.
