Enrollment Report: October 1, 2004
Each year all school districts are required to submit several school attendance reports throughout the school year. The October 1st numbers have traditionally been used as the snapshot in time to compare enrollment from one year to the next. The attached report is a summary report for October 1, 2004.
Enrollment Projection: Fall 2004
Each fall the Town Manager's Office produces an updated enrollment projection. The projection model is termed the "cohort survival method". Essentially, it takes a five-year average percentage of one cohort of students (e.g. grade 1) and measures the size of that same class as it advances to the next grade (in this case grade 2). To project kindergarten students a five-year average of birth rates to kindergarten is measured. The method has proven quite accurate in the past. This projection is used by the School Department to develop a more refined school based enrollment projection. The projection is also used to assist in long-term space planning.
