Permit Fees

Building permit fees for both residential and commercial projects are based on the value of the work to be performed. In accordance with the approval of Article 1, as amended, of the Special Town Meeting held on May 18, 2004, the building permit fee is $10.00 per each $1,000 or portion thereof of construction value with a minimum fee established at $25.00. The fee is calculated based upon the toal cost listed on the Application for Permit to Build by the applicant. To calucate the fee use the following steps:

1. Divide the “total cost” of work by $1000.00.
2. Round any decimal up to the next whole number
3. Multiply by $10.00

Residential (new and replacement)*: $60.00 plus $5.00 per fixture
Non-residential (new and replacement): $60.00 plus $8.00 per fixture
Residential Hot Water Heater Replacement**: $60.00
Non-Residetial Hot Water Heater Replacement**: $85.00
Sewer connection: $60.00

The permit fee will provide for one underground, one rough and one finish inspection. All other additional inspections and re-inspections shall be at the rate of $50 per inspection.
* A separate plumbing permit shall be filed for each dwelling unit.
** A gasfitting permit is only required for a gas fired water heater.

NOTE: A fine of $100 will be levied for any plumbing or gasfitting work performed without first obtaining the respective permit and the subsequent permit fee for such work shall be double the rate as set forth above.

Residential (new and replacement)*: $60.00 plus $5.00 per fixture
Non-residential (new and replacement)*: $60.00 plus $8.00 per fixture
Residential Hot Water Heater Replacement**: $60.00
Non-Residetial Hot Water Heater Replacement**: $85.00

The permit fee will provide for two inspections. All other additional inspections and re-inspections shall be at the rate of $50 per inspection.
* A separate gas permit shall be filed for each dwelling unit or each separate place of business.
** No plumbing permit required.

NOTE: A fine of $100 will be levied for any plumbing or gasfitting work performed without first obtaining the respective permit and the subsequent permit fee for such work shall be double the rate as set forth above.

Places of public assembly such as:
Churches, church halls, restaurants, clubs and athletic facilities. $40.00 per year

Private schools and educational facilities $40.00 per year

Childcare facilities $40.00 per year

Institutions/hospitals/nursing homes $100 for the first 100 beds and $2.00 for each additional 10 beds thereafter for a two year period

Hotels and motels $40.00 for up to 5 units and $2.00 per unit thereafter for a one year period (note: in most cases, one unit is equal to two rooms)

Multifamily $75.00 plus $2.00 per dwelling unit for a one year period
