Can I use my Shrewsbury Public Library
card at any other library? |
| |
|
Yes, you can use your Shrewsbury card
at almost any public library in the state that is certified to receive
State Aid to Public Libraries, as long as your card is not blocked.
Your card is blocked if you accumulate more than $3.00 in fines.

How old do I have to be to get a library
card? |

You have to be at least five years old
to get a library card. |

Do you assign family memberships? |
| |
|
No, each person must get their own
library card. The cards are non transferable and must be presented
each time a library transaction is made. |

What do I do if I lose my Library Card? |
| |

The Library can issue you a new one at
a cost of $2.00 with a form of identification. |

Can children of all ages come to the
Library? |
| |

Yes, everyone is welcome in the Library.
However, children under the age of 10 must be continually attended
by a parent or caregiver in all parts of the Library. |

Where can I return Library items? |
| |
|
You can return Library items in the Library,
or, when the Library is closed, in the book and video drops. Please
DO NOT put Audiobooks, and music CDs and cassettes in the drops; these
must be returned in the library. You can also return items to other
neighboring libraries. |

Are there any online services available
to me from home? |
| |
|
Yes, you may search many databases that
are sponsored by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners
at their website (http://www.mlin.lib.ma.us/cgi-bin/remote.pl).
You will need your library card number to access these databases.
InfoTrac databases include Contemporary Authors, Contemporary Literary
Criticism, General Reference Center, Health Reference Center, and
Business and Companies databases. Also available are Massachusetts
newspapers, eBooks, and other special collections.

Can you get an item from another Library? |

Yes, we can order items that we don't own
or is checked out from other libraries. This can be done at the Front
Desk, or if you have access to an internet connection, you can place
the hold from home. More instructions on Patron Placed Holds coming

How can I find information about Library
Programs? |
| |
|
The library publishes a newsletter every
three months, which is mailed to every home in Shrewsbury. Additional
copies are available at the Front Desk. Programs are posted in community
newspapers such as The Weekly Record, The Shrewsbury Chronicle and
the Community Advocate. Look for signs around the Library and on SPAC
cable as well. |

Where are new fiction books located? |
| |
|
All of our new books can be found in
the Front Reading Room. We also have a "FAST READ" shelf
opposite the Front Desk. Remember, if you can't find what you are
looking for we can most likely reserve it for you. |

Do you have old copies of magazines
and newspapers? |
| |
|
We have magazine subscriptions for the
current year, and we keep past issues back 3 years. This year's magazines
can be found in the Front Reading Room, and past issues can be found
on the back wall near Reference. Current newspapers can be found in
the Front Reading Room. If you need newspapers back further than that,
please ask at the Reference Desk. |

Do you have a fax and copier available
for public use? |
| |
|
Yes, we have 2 copiers available for
public use at 15 cents/copy. We do not have a fax available for
public use. |

Are there internet stations available? |
| |

Yes, the Library has 10 computer stations
equipped with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet connections. To
use a computer you must have a valid library card in good standing. |

Do you have equipment available to assist
patrons with reading, hearing, etc? |
| |
|
Yes, the Library owns an Optelec machine
that magnifies print for easier reading and a Phonic Ear that amplifies
sounds. The Library also has a TTY phone at the Reference Desk and
a computer with a magnifier for visually impaired individuals. For
more information about this equipment, please ask at the Front Desk.

Can I connect to the Internet at the
Library using my laptop? |
| |
|
Yes, the Library is WiFi equipped throughout
the building (but there may be some spots less “hot” than
others). You should be aware, however, that your laptop is vulnerable
unless you have adequate and up-to-date antivirus software on it.
The Library cannot assume responsibility for any damage to your equipment. |
