SELCO GreenLight

You have the power to choose...
Go Green.

SELCO is now providing a renewable energy option in response to the 2005 Customer Satisfaction Survey that indicated 67% of respondents were either “very interested” or “somewhat interested” in purchasing green or renewable electricity.

In addition to meeting customer needs, we are offering green power as part of our commitment to protecting the environment through exploration of alternative power generation methods.

Introducing SELCO GreenLight
The SELCO GreenLight program allows customers the option of purchasing renewable energy from SELCO for an additional cost. All money collected by the GreenLight program will go to support alternative power generation in New England. GreenLight charges will be in addition to SELCO electric rates.

GreenLight $5
For just $5 a month, SELCO customers can support renewable electric generation in New England. This program is equivalent to receiving 15% of your power from green energy production.

GreenLight $10
For $10 a month, customers can strengthen their commitment to green power generation by doubling the amount of power they receive (equivalent to 30% of power used) from renewable resources.

GreenLight Custom
If receiving 30% of your power from renewable resources isn’t enough for you, SELCO will work to provide you with a custom GreenLight program that fits your needs. Please call us at 508-841-8500 if you wish to create a custom GreenLight program.

Customers wishing to sign up for SELCO GreenLight can do so online by clicking the sign up link below, or by calling the SELCO office at 508-841-8500.

All GreenLight charges are in addition to your regular SELCO electric bill. A one year commitment is required for all SELCO GreenLight programs. 90% of SELCO GreenLight power is generated through wind turbines located in New England. Percentages of power from green generation based on average electric use of 500kWh/mo.

SELCO GreenLight Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Renewable or “Green” Energy?
Green energy is produced from rapidly replenished or infinite sources. Sun, wind and water generation is considered renewable. Electricity generated from renewable sources has a lower impact on the environment and reduces the public health effects from burning fossil fuels to produce electric energy.

How Do I Know I’m Getting “Green” Power?
While it is physically impossible to distinguish and deliver individual electrons to specific homes or businesses, by choosing renewable electricity you are ensuring that green electrons are being delivered to the power grid on your behalf, creating a cleaner, healthier energy mix.

Where Will SELCO GreenLight Power Come From?
100% of the power generated for the SELCO GreenLight program will come from wind farms in New England.

Why Should I Pay More for Green Power?
Its environmentally friendly! By supporting green power generation you help reduce our ongoing dependence on fossil fuels used to make electric energy. Your financial support of existing renewable fuel for energy generation helps provide the funds to build additional generation plants fueled by renewable resources. By increasing demand for green power you're ensuring that more "green" generation plants will be built to help meet the demand.

How Green is Wind Power?
Wind power produces no pollution and no by-products. Furthermore it uses no natural resources in the production of energy, whereas fossil fuels and nuclear use water for both creating steam to turn the turbines and for cooling.
