| The Town Meeting serves as the Town's legislative body under the provisions of Chapter 553 of the Acts of 1953, which is better known as the Representative Town Meeting Act. The Town Meeting is responsible for taking all action normally associated with that of a legislative body in the American system of democracy. The Representative Town meeting consists of 240 elected town meeting members distributed fairly evenly distributed among the nine (9) precincts based on population. While any resident can attend and speak at a Town Meeting it is only the elected town meeting members who can vote. Members are elected to three year staggered terms so that approximately 1/3 of the total town meeting membership stands for re-election each year. Town Meeting Monday May 19, 2008 Special Town Meeting December 10, 2007 On Monday night the Board signed a Special Town Meeting Warrant for a meeting to take place on Monday, December 10, 2007, at 7:00 PM in the Oak Middle School Auditorium. The Finance Committee will review this warrant and take public testimony on Thursday, December 6, 2007, at 7:00 PM when they meet in the Old Selectmen’s Meeting Room. The five article warrant covers various matters with the two most pressing matter are the sale of the former Fire Station #3 located on Rte 20 and the authorization of an extended term for the Town’s waste disposal and landfill operation agreements. Annual Town Meeting May 21, 2007 On Monday night the Board signed the warrant for the May 21, 2007, Annual Town meeting. Also included on the warrant is the setting of the ballot for the Annual Town Election on May 1, 2007. Contained within the warrant is a ballot question to be submitted to the voters seeking an override of $5 Million. The Finance Committee will hold a public hearing on this warrant on March 29, 2007, starting at 7:00 PM in the Selectmen's meeting room.
