Special Needs Program

 Eligibility for Program Participation

The Parks and Recreation Department Special Needs Programs are suggested for persons age 6* and up. Parents should contact the department as to the suitability of the program for their child.

*age prerequisites vary by program.

 Recreational and Social Services

Dances, parties, and "get-togethers" are organized throughout the year. Specific dates and information are available by contacting the office.

We have planned a spectacular outing for our program on June 22nd at a Paw Sox game and would love to see YOU there!

The Paw Sox will be recognizing our program and will even have a few of our athletes on the field prior to the start of the game. There's a BBQ before the start of the game where the players will sign autographs and best of all, you can save $ on gas by taking the bus we'll be providing at no additional charge.

Please read the below flier and reply prior to the deadline as once we send in our ticket order we will not be able to make adjustments. Let's make this a family event - see you at the ballpark!

Shrewsbury Special Needs "Pirates" to take the Plunge

Congratulations to the 24 Plunging Pirates who jumped into the icy ocean on February 16, 2008 to support Shrewsbury Special Olympics programs and raise over $20,000!  Who’s going to join them next year?

 Volunteers and Parents

Leadership and supervision in all activities is provided by volunteer staff under the guidance of the program director. Students' parents are often needed for participation on unified teams. Anyone wishing to help should inform the program director.

 Special Olympics Competition
"Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt."

Participants practice locally and compete state-wide in a variety of sports (see listing). Coaching and instruction is provided by adults with experience suited to the particular sport.

Registration and a completed medical form are needed to compete in Special Olympics competitions.

All sports feature unified and traditional teams.
