The Shrewsbury Police Departmenthas an authorized strength
of 44 full-time sworn officers - the Chief, 2 lieutenants, 5 sergeants
and 35 patrol officers - 8 full-time civilian dispatchers, 7 secretaries,
5 school traffic supervisors and 1 animal control officer.
Additionally, we maintain a Special/Auxiliary Police Unit. The
Special Officers are assigned to private details as appropriate.
The Auxiliary Officers are part of the Town's Civil Defense Department.
We patrol 20.78 square miles of land, 158 miles of road, and provide
police services for approximately 33,400 residents. We operate marine
and bike patrols seasonally.
Police Department Releases Strategic Plan
On February 2nd, Police Chief James Hester, Jr. , released his department's strategic plan when he met with the Finance Committee and Board of Selectmen. This plan is the result of internal discussions and results from Chief Hester assuming the position of police chief in January of 2007. It is the practice of all municipal department for new department heads to issue strategic plans when assuming their new roles.
