Policies and hours for the Library /Media Center

 

Hours   7:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

 

Rules and Regulations

1.  Students may visit the Media Center with their teachers for whole class, small group or independent research or other activities. 

2.  Students may visit the Media Center during study periods only if they follow the pass procedure described below.

 

NEW PASS PROCEDURE - FALL 2006

1) Underclassmen:
• Students need passes from one of the media staff to use the library media center during their study halls. Passes from study hall teachers or subject teachers will not be accepted.
• Students may obtain passes to use the library during study halls to do research assignments and to borrow library books.
• Passes will be available in the media center before school from 7:00 – 7:20 am and after school from 1:50 – 3:00 pm. Students whose classes meet in the media for research may also obtain a pass at the end of the class session before leaving the media center for their next class.
• The number of passes given out per period will be determined by the number of classes signed in for research.
• Passes will be placed in the student planner on the hall passport page and students must show this to their study hall teachers.
• Students will not be allowed out of the study to come to the media center without this specific pass.
• A list of students’ names will be kept and the media staff or the teacher on duty will check off the names as the students arrive.
• Students must report to study hall for attendance purposes before going to the media center.
• Students are expected to remain in the media center for the entire period.

 

2) Seniors:
•Seniors do not need passes to come to the media center during studies.
•Seniors may leave the media center to go back to their common study at any time but may not return to the media center during that class period.
•Seniors wanting to leave the media center for our reasons (e.g. to visit lockers; go to the bathroom, etc.) must obtain a pass from one of the media center staff.

3) All students:
• Seniors must sign in at the library door.
• Seniors must arrive during the first ten minutes of a period.

4) Students may spend only one study period per day in the media center unless the media staff grants additional time.

5) Students whose behavior in the library is inappropriate may lose their use of the library for a
Specified period of time to be determined by their grade administrator. Students will be disciplined if they violate guidelines.

 

• Respect

1. Students must respect other students' rights for quiet study.

2. Students must show respect while using the books and other resources.

3. Students who fail to follow the discipline policy of the Media Center will be denied access to the center.  Other disciplinary measures may be taken by the administration.

 

• Loans

1. Loaned for a three-week period, books may be renewed once for another three weeks.

2. Magazines/reference books are loaned over night.

3. Overdue notices are sent biweekly.

4. Students' names are submitted to the administration when books are overdue more than two months. 

 

• Lost Books

Students who lose books will be billed for the cost of the book(s).  Payments will be accepted in the form of checks made out to the Shrewsbury Public Schools
