The mission of the Shrewsbury High School Guidance Department is to enhance the development of each student's capabilities, both as learners and human beings. Guidance, an integral part of the education services at Shrewsbury High School, focuses on the individual student by providing assistance in understanding self, environment, and the relationship between the two. Guidance also serves to promote understanding among student, parent, teacher, and community.
Guidance plays a unique role in your child's education as we have an opportunity to interact with students across a broad spectrum of activities. Our comprehensive program includes services in Counseling, Academic planning and College and Career planning. Counseling services include individual counseling, small group work, referrals to the school psychologists, and our participation with The Student Service Team (made up of guidance counselors, nurses, administrators and school psychologists). Academically, our counselors assist students in mapping a course of study that is both realistic and challenging, always keeping in mind various requirements for graduation and standardized testing. Through parent/teacher conferences, serving as a liaison with Special Education, and the Guidance newsletter, counselors will work to keep both student and parent informed on a regular basis.
An integral aspect of the Guidance Office is helping students develop future plans, whether they include college, the military, or vocational training. Our counselors will work with students to explore and assess career options, facilitate internships and job shadowing experiences as well as a thorough college and scholarship search process.
Throughout a student's four years at Shrewsbury High School, we strive to provide an atmosphere that allows a student to mature, to succeed socially and academically and to plan for a fulfilling future.
