GARDNER— Shrewsbury High guard Colby Reese is only a sophomore, but he’s being counted on as a leader

this season by coach Adrian Machado and the Colonials.
Last night on the road, Reese led the way with a game-high 27 points as Shrewsbury defeated Gardner High, 67-46.
“We really came together as a team in this one,” said the 6-foot Reese, who as a freshman started as the team’s point

guard before moving to shooting guard this year.

Finally a little bit of payback

Shrewsbury High versus St. John’s — was one hockey enthusiasts will remember for a long time, as the Colonials

knocked off the Pioneers, 5-3, last night at the Northstar Youth Forum.

 

-Shrewsbury 6, North Middlesex 0
Derek Ryan had a goal and an assist for the Colonials (2-3) at the Northstar Youth Forum.
Pat Army and Andrew Vaillant combined for a 14-save shutout.

Shrewsbury 49, Gardner 47
The No. 2 Colonials held off a late Wildcat rally to escape with their first Mid-Wach A victory.Kelly McKenna led

Shrewsbury (7-1, 1-0) with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Ali Wood had 11 points, including several key free

throws down the stretch. Taylor Lincoln added 10 points for the Colonials.
Chelsea Richard scored 17 points for Gardner (3-3, 0-2), which led, 19-17, at halftime.

Colonials answer coach’s call

Shrewsbury High coach Erin Largess had a simple message for her players during a timeout.
“I told them they were better than this and they’re handing the game over to them because you’re not playing as

hard as they can,” Largess said. “They responded.”

Senior forward Taylor Lincoln scored 13 points to lead the host Colonials (3-1) to a win over the Guardians.
Sophomore guard Tory Benoit added 10 points and five steals for Shrewsbury.

The host Colonials (2-0) led by 19 points at the break and cruised past the Patriots (0-1). Kelly McKenna

was the lone Shrewsbury player in double figures with 12 points.

WORCESTER— Shrewsbury High had been in several pressure-packed situations this season. But none were

bigger than the one the Colonials faced during yesterday’s Division 1A Super Bowl.
Trailing, 17-8, in the fourth quarter, Shrewsbury didn’t push the panic button. Instead, it scored two touchdowns in

a span of 2-1/2 minutes — sparked by the game-changing recovery of a short kickoff — en route to a heart-stopping,

21-17 victory over Westfield High at Worcester State College.

 

No. 2 Colonials clinch

Shrewsbury High coach Terry Walles stood at midfield after his team’s win over Doherty High last night, cold and wet thanks to a Gatorade dousing, trying to explain how the Colonials got here. “Before the season, I was telling people that I thought we could be good,” Walles said. “But you never expect this.”Walles was referring to a 10-0 record, the Division 1 East championship, and a playoff berth that Shrewsbury’s 27-7 victory clinched.The coach mentioned some close games, some improbable wins, and the fortune that has been involved in the magical run. But make no mistake about it — second-ranked Shrewsbury is good.

SHREWSBURY— If Shrewsbury ends up clinching the Division 1 East title, nobody can say the Colonials didn’t earn it.
No. 2 Shrewsbury ran its record to 8-0 (3-0 D1E) after sophomore Nate Theodoss intercepted a two-point

conversion pass with 27 seconds remaining to give the Colonials a thrilling, 28-27 win over No. 6 Marlboro

last night in Shrewsbury.

 

-At home or on the road, in or out of its division, the Shrewsbury High train keeps rolling along.
The No. 2-ranked Colonials continued to record big wins last night as senior quarterback Jawad Yatim racked up

nearly 200 yards passing to lead Shrewsbury to a convincing, 27-6, win over No. 7 Algonquin Regional

 

-Colonials are finally the toast of the town.The Shrewsbury High football team had been waiting nearly 20 years to

celebrate a victory over cross-town rival St. John’s. Let the party begin.

 

-The fifth-ranked Shrewsbury Colonials matched their win total of a year ago,

turning back Wachusett Regional, 28-7, last night before a packed house at Shrewsbury High.

The Shrewsbury senior lineman scored his first career touchdown by intercepting a pass after superstar

linebacker Shawn Loiseau knocked the ball out of North Middlesex quarterback Alan Ericson’s hand

and rumbled 40 yards to the end zone to seal the No. 4 Colonials’ 20-6 victory last night at Young Memorial Field.

 

-The Colonials’ defense took it as a personal challenge, flustering the Auburn offense and Leroux all night.
Shrewsbury allowed only 85 yards of offense to the Rockets and picked off Leroux twice en route to a

dominating, 22-0 victory in its home opener.

WORCESTER - It wasn't long after the national anthem that No. 6 Marlborough found itself in deep trouble in last
night's Division 1 Central girls soccer semifinal against No. 2 Shrewsbury.
Senior forward Nicola D'Errico had the Colonials on WPI's Alumni Field scoreboard just 22 seconds into the contest
. Shrewsbury had built a 2-0 advantage when Gianna D'Errico volleyed a cross from Erin Kinback past Marlboroughkeeper Jesse Bryant less than seven minutes later.

 

Shrewsbury 4, Wachusett 1
Senior forward Nicola D’Errico scored four minutes into the game and with four minutes left in the first half — both assisted by Ashlyn Derosier — for second-seeded Shrewsbury (16-1-2) in a home win.
Junior goalkeeper Demi McLaren stopped seven shots.
Also scoring for Shrewsbury were Maura Fox assisted by Sara Shuster and Gianna D'Errico assisted by Erin Kinback. Shrewsbury led 3-1 at halftime as they seized possession of the game early and often.
Defenders Sara Shuster, Michelle Laramee, Tory Benoit, and Kath Beall played exceptionally well, as they limited Wachusett's powerful offense to few offensive opportunities.

 

-Avenging their only loss this season, the Lady Colonials of Shrewsbury soundly defeated the

Westboro Rangers 2-0 on Senior Night.

 

-Shrewsbury 2, Algonquin 1

Senior twin sisters Gianna and Nicola D’Errico scored early first-half goals, both

assisted by each other, for the top-ranked Colonials (14-1-2, 10-0-2) against the Tomahawks (10-5-2, 9-3)

in a battle of Mid-Wach A powers in Northboro. Shrewsbury captured sole possession of the Mid-Wach A

title with the win.

Having already been knocked out of district qualification, the North Middlesex Regional Patriots

were in the position to play spoiler, under the lights Tuesday night.
Only, they were hosting arguably the hottest team in Central Mass.
Perennial power Shrewsbury, which came into the game with just one loss on the season and a likely high district

seed, busted out three first-half goals en route to a 4-0 victory over the Patriots.

 

Marissa Masionis scored on an assist from Andrea Ferrante with 15 minutes left in the game to lead the host Milford girls soccer team to a 2-2 draw with visiting Mid-Wach A powerhouse rival ShreVisiting Shrewsbury moved one step closer to clinching the Mid-Wach A title as they battled a physical wsbury.

-On a chilly Saturday evening the Shrewsbury Girls Soccer Team turned in another dominant performance as they

trampled the Marlboro Lady Panthers. Marlboro certainly no slouch and a fierce rival of the Colonials came in

with a 6-2-2 record.

In a battle for Mid/Wach "A" supremacy, Shrewsbury came out on top in a resounding 4-1 win over

bitter league rival Algonquin.

 

-Floundering Fitchburg
FITCHBURG -- It could have been worse for the Fitchburg girls' soccer team, Tuesday afternoon.
The visiting Shrewsbury Colonials (6-1-1) could easily have had a double-digit victory but hit four posts during

the course of their 8-0 roll over the Red Raiders. Shrewsbury also outshot Fitchburg 20-1.

 

-WESTBOROUGH 2, SHREWSBURY 0: Goals by Annette Kristiansen and Jane Redden propelled Westborough to a non-league victory over visiting Shrewsbury (5-1-1, 4-0-1 MWA). Meg Cullen stopped all five shots she faced for the Rangers (7-1, 4-0 MWB).

Shrewsbury girls’ soccer coach Chip DelPrete has been pleasantly surprised by the way his Colonial squad has
been able to overcome several key injuries and remain undefeated with four wins and a tie in its first five games. “It’s a little surprising to me considering the amount of injuries we’ve had. We’ve faced a lot of adversity early in the season,” DelPrete said. “We’ve had a lot of primary players suffer major injuries and we lost 11 seniors from last year’s team.”

The Shrewsbury Girls Varsity Soccer team turned in another dominating
performance over league foe Leominster on Thursday evening. Shrewsbury
