Background: In 2002, a group of ambitious students desired to learn more about the art of entrepreneurship. These students asked Dr. Klauminzer to be their advisor, a math teacher at SHS, and founded the Shrewsbury High School Entrepreneur’s club. These aspiring entrepreneurs established a business geared toward SHS students. The first business we established was a choral service, in which student employees were commissioned to sing to certain designated individuals. Although this business was not a success per se, it symbolized the beginning of a new era in school: the era of capitalism. Our second attempt at business was a calculator distribution system dubbed “Insta-Calc”. We bought used graphing calculators at a discounted rate from graduating seniors and from the Internet and sold them to freshmen who needed calculators for class. This business was an éclat. Since then our club has grown from just a bunch of determined students to a full-blown business, with yearly enterprises. Along the way we invited guest speakers to help us learn more about the skills and strategy involved in entrepreneurship. These include Stefano Piardi of Rt. 9 carpets and Mr. Weimer of JanPro. For further information about our enterprises and ongoing businesses, please visit our Back-to-School Businesses page.
