Back-To-School Sale:

Preparation:

After conceiving the business idea, the E-Club contacted Shrewsbury High School administrators (Principal Dr. Gutekanst, Vice Principal for Student Affairs Mrs. Meyers) and received an endorsement. Then in order to enlighten the future freshman class of 2009, members met with Dr. Lobban, Principal for 8th grade at Oak Middle School, in May and created various informational flyers for the event (see below). We were allotted one page on the upcoming 8th grade parent newsletter to distribute information, and a 5-minute slot in the June assembly to personally talk with eighth graders. Sadly, the newsletter never printed our flyer…

"Sale" Processes:

The “Back-to-School” Sale lasted 3 weeks starting on September 1st and ending on September 24th , during which calculators were sold at a discounted price of $65. Each calculator came with the regular 14-day limited warranty. 200 flyers were handed out at the Freshman Orientation, and many more were posted in the hallways and math classrooms. The options for purchasing and renting were as follows:

Buy

  • $65—Offer expires 9/24/05.
  • $80—Any time during the school year.

Rent

  • $15 per semester.
  • $25 per year.
  • 50% of rent can be applied to the purchase of the calculator at any time.
  • Calculator is yours to own after 8 semesters!

Results:

The sale was very successful, as almost all the calculators in the inventory were sold during the three weeks. The only complaints received were that the calculators were not new as some parents had expected, but instead were previously owned. Those calculators were refunded for the full purchase price.
