Insta-Calc Enterprises Business Plan:

The Entrepreneurs Club would like to start a service-based business known as Insta-Calc Enterprises. The principle objective will be to provide the school community with the opportunity to rent or buy TI-83 graphing calculators for an affordable price. Different price structures will be set up in the renting and selling of calculators. The calculators will be sold for $85 with a 90-day replacement warranty. The calculators will also be rented out for $15 per semester and $25 per year. As per the end of the 8th semester of payment, the student will own the calculator. However, half of the amounts paid cumulatively for rent will/can always go towards the purchasing of an $85 calculator. The headquarters of the business will be in the room of the advisor to the club. In this case, it is Dr. Klauminzer.

Students in the high school will be informed of the service through a newsletter and form in the beginning of the school year. Those interested in the program will return the form checking off their request of either to buy or rent a calculator.

Our service will be available to students throughout the year. An individual will also be able to rent a calculator in the middle of the semester for a possibly reduced rate. All proceeds from the business after covering costs for running will go into the club's accounts for activities and secondarily to the school. We plan to direct these services towards students as well as teachers, administrators, and any other SHS staff.

Insta-Calc Enterprises will make our services as user-friendly as possible. Potential customers will be recruited by both word of mouth as well as advertisements. Additional requests for participation in the calculator program will be taken by the use of forms to be located in the Dr. Klauminzer's room. These forms will elicit the customer's name, grade, type of service requested, payment plan (payment in advance or at the time service is rendered), the message to be relayed, the date and time of any service given, as well as any other particulars. We fully intend to emphasize customer service by making ourselves readily available to the customer so that they feel comfortable and understand the product that they are paying for. We estimate that at first sales will be low, as not many people will know about our service. As time progresses however we predict that they will increase.

There will also be much work to be done in record keeping, which will be handled delicately. We will keep a ledger or some sort of record of all of our finances. This record will contain data including but not limited to: balances, expenditures, profits, customers, dates, and any other pertinent information necessary for tracking. We will give receipts to the customer as soon as they pay us. All profits from sales will be put into a fund, where they will be used in an appropriate manner to be determined.

As Mrs. Meyers directs extracurricular activities, we plan to hold monthly meetings with her. The subjects of these meetings will include but not be limited to our progress, profits, interest, any noteworthy incidents, as well as some presentations of samples of exactly what we do, to give the administration a good sense of what is happening. We are prepared to deal with discontent, coming from either the students or the parents. We do not anticipate this being much of a problem however. Our contacts include the math department, to discuss the use of calculators, and the mailing department, to post advertisements in the parent forum as well as the colonial Update. Information about every student involved in this production will be provided to Mrs. Meyers, enabling easy contact to any member or section of our business in case any questions, comments, suggestions, concerns should arise.

Our business, with proper planning and organization, will be an amazing contribution to the school. It will help contribute to the sense of community which all of us cherish.
