ACE Program-Advanced Career Exploration

This program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to earn credit by applying academic skills to a workplace experience. ACE allows motivated students to acqure knowledge from employers that he/she may not find in the classroom. Students will be expected to attend the internship on a regular basis according to the internship supervisor. Furthermore, students will be required to produce a student portfolio, a journal of daily activities, a final experience paper (turned in at the end of the internship), and attend workshops related to the internship experience. Each student will earn a letter grade based on the student meeting the program requirements.

NEAT-New Entrant Assistance Team

NEAT was recently created to address the transition issues faced by new upperclass students, those new to Shrewsbury in Grades 10-12. Current Shrewsbury High School students act as ambassadors in this special role as they pair with a new student to help them get acquainted. All students meet periodically to discuss current topics and areas of concern with the NEAT coordinator.

Ms. Kathy Floyd is the coordinator for NEAT and can be reached at 508-841-8818 with questions.

MVP-Mentor Volunteer Program

The purpose of the Mentor Volunteer Program is to ease the transition for incoming 9th grade students from middle school to high school. Freshman year can be difficult when trying to learn the rotating schedule, navigate the halls, and manage the intensified school work that comes along with high school. This does not take into account a student's non- academic life: sports, clubs, activities and friends. The mentor program will connect freshmen students to upperclassmen whom are leaders in our school community setting a positive tone for the school. A mentor's leadership and support will create a capable, caring and active school community. Our expectation is not that mentors become friends with freshman (although this may happen), but that they will include and welcome them as part of a great school community.

Miss Jessica Reagey and Ms. Amy Antonelli are the coordinators for MVP and can be reached at 508-841-8852 and 508-841-2105, respectively.
