2006 P.E.G. PRODUCERS OF THE YEAR

The 18th Annual Producer Awards Night was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall on March 30th. SMC staff honored dozens of town residents for their contributions to the community through their programming on SPAC TV 28, SETV 29 & SGTV 30. SMC honored separate Producer of the Year awards to Public, Educational and Government Access producers.

Public Access: "Service to the community through programming, produces a variety (in style and content) of programs, incorporates other producers into productions, supports other producers in their programs, maintains high technical standards, promotes SMC and the philosophies of Public Access and shows growth in all areas of community producing." Nicholas J. Todisco, Jr. is the Public Access Producer of the Year for 2006 for his many contributions to our community through programming and participation particularly with youth, documenting sporting events and connecting people of all ages. In addition to volunteering on our Advisory Board and helping out with the Spirit of Shrewsbury parade, he produced 99 taped and 27 LIVE programs with his dedicated crew including Coach's Corner, SHS Basketball & Football games, Good Morning Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury Yesterday and 7 specials. Since it's beginning in 1999 with football and expanding into basketball, skiing, hockey, baseball, softball, and track; Coach's Corner has served hundreds of Shrewsbury High School student/athletes and their families while highlighting their athletic and scholastic achievements and role model characteristics. Nick and his crew: Bob Bigda, Henry Grampietro, Dennis Mastro, John Mastro & Bill Orfalea are in their eighth year of producing. Nick has previously won the Producer of the Year Award in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2005 and amassing an incredible 600 programs.

Educational Access: "Service to the community through programming, produces a variety (in style and content) of programs, incorporates other producers into productions, promotes SMC and the philosophies of Educational Access and shows growth in all areas of community producing." Erica Bodden and Kelly Dupuis are the Educational Access Co-Producers of the Year for 2006. They are being recognized for their dedication in producing programming that highlights the Shrewsbury public school system. Together they produced, hosted or videotaped more than 20 SETV programs. Their ease in front of the camera, sense of humor and dedication to the philosophies of Education Access have made them a pleasure to work with. Some of their shows included information on the drop off and pickup procedures for the Middle Schools, Behind the Scenes of Sherwood's Boston Under Seige, and various interview shows with both school administration and middles school students. It is refreshing to see these parents that are so involved with their children's education and their willingness to create informative programs to help and educate other parents in the community.

Government Access: "Service to the community by producing a variety of programs for the Government Channel, volunteers for various Government Access shoots, shows growth in all areas of production and helps to promote SMC and the philosophies of Government Access. Rep. Karyn E. Polito is the Government Access Producer of the Year for 2006 for her dedication to creating and hosting programs on SGTV 30. These programs have helped to highlight various aspects of State and local government. She has reported on people in the community who have achieved greatness and dedicated several road and building projects with her show. With her show, Our Boston Connection, has opened up the Massachusetts State House to not only the people of Shrewsbury, but also her constituents in Westboro. Rep. Polito is a strong supporter of PEG Access and is always trying to help SMC out when she can. She is a dedicated public servant and greatly deserves this recognition.
