The Basics - Webmail
If you would like to set up a new email address or change an
existing Town ISP email address, please call the Help Desk at 508-841-8572.
| How to set up your email - Outlook |
|
Directions for checking which version:
- Open Outlook
- Click the "Help" menu
- Click "About Microsoft Outlook"
Outlook 98 and 2000:
The method for setting up outlook in this version is actually the
same as the directions for Outlook Express. Follow the directions
as for Outlook Express Users below.
Outlook 2002 (XP) and 2003:
- Open Outlook
- Click "Tools", and then "E-mail Accounts"
- Select "Add a New Email Account" and click "Next"
- Select "POP3" and then click "Next"
- Enter your full name and email address
- Enter your username and password. The username is the same
as your email address in lowercase letters, but do not enter the
"@townisp.com" here.
- The incoming server is pop3.townisp.com and the outgoing server
is smtp.townisp.com
- Click "Next" and then "Finish"

| How to set up your email - Outlook Express |
- Start Outlook, and it will ask you to configure your email account.
(If not, select "Accounts" from the "Tools"
Menu, then "Add"-"Mail")
- Fill in your name...and your email address.
- In Outlook, select POP protocol. Use pop3.townisp.com as your
incoming server name and smtp.townisp.com for your outgoing mail.
- Type in your Account name and Password in the appropriate boxes.
- Now, click Next and Finish, and connection is ready.

| Netscape |
- Click on "Edit" and then "Preferences".
- Double click on "Mail & Groups" until there is
a "minus" sign to the left of it. You will then see
"Identity", "Messages", "Mail Server",
"Groups Server" and "Directory" directly below
the "Mail & Groups."
- Click on "Identity" one time and over to the right,
fill in the requested information.
- Click on "Mail Server" one time and over to the right,
fill in the requested information.
- For "Mail server user name:", fill in the space
with your Simply Internet username. Remember to not use CAPS.
- For "Outgoing Mail [SMTP] server", fill in the space
with smtp.townisp.com.
- For "Incoming mail server", fill in the space with
pop3.townisp.com.
- Do not check the box under "Mail Server Type" that
reads "Leave messages on server after retrieval."
Note: Netscape 8.1 does not support access to your TownISP email
at this time. |

| Mozilla Thunderbird Set-up |
When you start Thunderbird for the first time, the
"Account Wizard" will open automatically.
(If you have used Thunderbird before, click "Tools" and
then "Account Settings", and then click "Add Account"
to get to the account wizard.)
- Select "Email Account" and then click "next"
- Enter "Your Name" as the name you would like others
to see when you send them email
- Enter you full townisp.com email address (in lowercase letters)
and click "Next"
- Select "POP" and enter the incoming mail server name
as pop3.townisp.com
- Enter the "Outgoing Server" as smtp.townisp.com click
"Next"
- Enter "your Incoming User Name" which is your email
address without "@townisp.com"
- The "Outgoing User Name" field should be left blank,
and then click "Next"
- Click "Next" again, verify email address and server
names (all should be in lowercase)
- Click "Finish"
- Click "Ok" to exit the "Accounts" window
- Click the "Get Mail" button in the top left hand
corner
- Thunderbird will attempt to access your email, and will prompt
for a password
- Enter the password for your email account (password is capital
sensitive)
- Check the "Use Password Manager to remember the password"
box if you do NOT want
- hunderbird to prompt you for this password every time you access
your email.
- Click "Ok", and Thunderbird will download any new
mail you have.

| Remote Access To Email |
| New to Shrewsbury's High speed internet
service, we now offer remote access to your e-mail at no extra charge.
Now whenever you are away from home you will be able to check your
e-mail remotely. To access your e-mail through the internet go to
http://webmail.townisp.com
. This site allows you to view and send any e-mail, with your Townisp
Account, from any computer that has access to the internet. The intention
of this service is for our customers who need access to their e-mail
away from their home computer.
Please note: That you have the option within this program to create
folders and move email within these folders. You must keep the email
in your INBOX, in the webmail system, to download the email to your
home PC. Also once downloaded to your home PC, you will not be able
to view that e-mail from the remote access service. For information
on how to log on to the remote access service and to get a preview
of its look & feel. Click here.
If your PC, connected to your cable modem, is powered ON and is
set up automatically to download mail, you will not be able to remotely
view email as described above.
The remote access email system is not intended to be a substitute
for the mail software set up on your PC. |
- In the Address Bar of your web browser, Type in http://webmail.townisp.com
SHOULD LINK TO https://webmail.townisp.com/cgi-bin/sqwebmail?index=1
- Next, A Security Alert will pop up asking if you would like
to proceed, Click On "Yes"
- After selecting Yes, you should receive a screen like this where
you can type in your username and password. After doing so, choose
"Login".
- NOTE: Your username is the beginning of your email address
only, and must be typed in lower-case.
- NOTE: The check box on the screen is just for added security
for the user. it may be checked or unchecked.
- Now you are logged into your mail. Here you will find your "Folder"
list and the ability to create and delete folders.
- The next link over is the "Create Message" Link, here
you will be able to send any messages to whomever you choose.
- The next one over from that is The "Preferences"
button. Here you will be able to do things such as: Set a Signature
for your outgoing mail and much more.
- Another feature of this system is the ability to personalize
your own address book This is located on the next link "Address
Book".
- After you are all done you can logout of the system by choosing
"Log Out" in the upper right hand corner of your screen
