Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Did my bank pay my taxes?
A staff member would have to access MUNIS payment history to obtain this information.

  2. I never received the bill. Why do I have to pay demand and interest?
M.G.L. CH60; Sec 3 & 16 states failure to receive the bill shall not invalidate a tax or any proceedings for enforcement of collection of the same.

  3. I don't have this car anymore; now what do I do?
The reverse side of the excise bill explains the procedure. Any abatement or adjustment would be handled by the Assessing Office.

  4. I just bought a new home; when will the tax bill come in my name?
A new home owner form needs to be completed for the Assessing Office so that the bill will be mailed "In Care Of" the new owner. Also, once the deed is received form the Registry of Deeds and the next January 1st assessment period goes by the bill will be in the new owners name alone.
